Summer in the Slowness is a small piece of fiction based on growing up southern. Not entirely made up; not entirely true. Just another southern story, published in Not to Touch.
Last night listening to the neighborhood fox, I came on the following:
Why that fox go crazy
barking for a vixen?
Winter, time to find a hole
keep warm, and why so
you be going off like that
you crazy bad ass fox?
Big tailed, red as sunset fox
those wide eyes don’t blink none
while he stares right at you.
Time for loving, time
for making babies so
the den won’t be so empty.
