Last week, I read a piece in Medium reviewing a book from 2014. My appetite for book reviews must be higher than the norm, but this review I couldn’t quite figure out. The book in question was titled Sapiens, A Brief History of Humankind. by an Israel author I hadn’t come across, even if half the world had.

Of course, I was interested—three hundred thousand years condensed to a single volume meant serious editing. And it was to be brief. How was that to work?

From the title of the reviewer’s article, this wasn’t going to be a hagiography. Reading the Medium article, I came away with the thought this dude had exposed some kind of ‘elitist’ thinking.

Days passed, and I kept grinding on the thought ‘there’s something to write about here,’ but didn’t know which end of the carcass to chew on—a little ape-man metaphor.

Read the piece or go watch Gilligan Island reruns. Given the choice, I might as well.

PS—there’s kind of a trick ending.
