We enjoyed the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s opening concert last Friday, though the sound system needed work. The vocals were swallowed in the mix, with a high frequency distortion and too high a volume for the space. But the band has settled in for a three week stay in town.

The Warner Theater staff handled the checking of tickets and vaccination cards like same old same old. And the balcony seats were great.

Seems Susan’s been taking lessons in blues solos from her old man since last they passed through. Her sharp, clipped licks compliment his stretched slide notes. She didn’t need lessons in singing. In anyone else’s band, she’d be the rock star; with Derek taking lead, her guitar work is icing on the cake—her vocals are a feast by anyone’s love for the blues.

And their drummers, Tyler Greenwell and Isaac Eady, were driving the beat as well as Jaimoe and Trucks of old. Duane’s been gone a while. as has Butch, but the Tedeschi Trucks Band reminds me to smile.
