I’m trying something new—two Medium stories and no blog. They should have been published sooner, but for the traveling then processing of a zillion Alhambra photos. Please read Hordes in the Garden.

Too much traveling and two much editing photos—an impossibly fine life.

I’ve been aided by publishing on Medium. It has widened my readership, folks who don’t know me from boo. Even though I have no way to directly reach those readers. But I do get clues to what’s making them perk up and read. Dog stories, for one—but everybody loves dog stories, so those two were no brainers.

The piece on Reading Lolita in Tehran was a surprise. I’m still getting notes months later. One special note I prize was written by a woman in Kyiv—in the middle of that hellscape and what she wrote was touching.

So stories about what despots have or will have wrought on other humans is a category. This month’s Hordes in the Garden is in that vein.

The other piece, About a Woman is just sad on a personal level.
