This month’s story on Medium is another dog story, A Dog’s Life by Peter Mayle.

I like dog stories, if you haven’t noticed. Mayle’s book I read too many years ago to count. A week or so ago, I came across the paperback facing out on a book shelf, like it was that kind of book, which in fact it is, if you enjoy British humor.

Four sessions of line-editing over the past month, and I’ve ordered advanced copies of Kill Devil  Come the Storm. I do need readers who’ll post on Amazon, so the first 20 or so copies will be sent out free. All I need is an address.

The second copy I ordered disappeared in a Fed Ex warehouse. Followed by Fed Ex shipping the latest two copies, which arrived looking like they’d been sent via Bakhmut in Ukraine. I chose the better surviving copy to ship to a reader, and the UPS office person asked, “Was there a footprint on the box?”

Might as well had been.

Catching up on The Rest Is Politics podcast, the one from July 17th is highly recommended. It is a live interview Rory Stewart and Alastair Campbell conducted with Richard Engel of NBC News, who reported a documentary piece on Russia.

It’s been said by political commentators that today’s Russia is a mafia state. Engel lays the question to rest. And when the death of broadcast journalism is brought up, a few real journalists do remain.

The interview title is The Power of Prigozhin. Scroll down a few episodes and look for the title.
