Ryan Holiday is one of the popular (mainly men) influencers who has made a name endorsing the Stoics of ancient times, Marcus Aurelius, Senaca, et. al. Holiday is a published author who’s been doing the talk circuits promoting his newest book, Wisdom Takes Work. I’m waiting on my copy to ship from Holiday’s book store in Texas—there’s an oxymoron for you. The store’s name is The Painted Porch and they indeed ship.

Reading his written work hasn’t impressed me as much as hearing him discuss it: Ryan Holiday on The Daily Show

There are so many ways people are pointing out how confused and distressed the country seems to be, and how ever could we be more divided than we are at present.

In this vein, my article on W.B Yeats’s The Tower may stand as an example of how this history can call attention to what’s past is present yet again.

The Irish finally successful war for independence was a civil war in most ways, which continues today with the country still split—Northern Ireland exists only because they haven’t found another way around their cultural impasse, which doesn’t speak do well of our own.

Paxton in Texas has been preaching to his fellow right wingers they should succeed if they don’t get their way. Oh, I’m sure there are lefties who’ll say the same, only I can’t name them at present. Meanwhile, I’ve been reading Yeats again.
