Aussie pirate plus dog – July ’26 photo by D
D and I live in a normal place with normal neighbors. For the most part.
Yeah, I know. Everybody is using ChatGPT or some such app requiring ten zillion joules to do crazy stupid stunts. There’s even one of Mitch McConnell holding a newspaper like he’s been kidnapped by evil doers with his little wifey hanging by his side. But this one here’s real. Reason I know is I saw D take it.
A few years back, when WAPO [i] still put out a magazine imitating the NY Times, the back page had a photo puzzle asking the readers to identify 12 wackadoodle things that made no sense in the photo. You actually had to work to find all 12. This was definitely in the pre-Bezos years—he was still married to his first little wifey back then and had no plans to visit Venice for a big shindig costing more than a regular person’s pontoon boat.
So just look at this one for a moment. D said she thought it reminded her of the good old days when the Washington Post still tried entertaining its Sunday readers. Now WAPO buys articles from other newspapers and invites Trumps bros to bloviate, having chased most of its rational writers off to join Substack. You can find Ron Charles on Substack. I’m missing Book World like I ran out of good booze.
Rest in peace, Mitch. You did a supremely swell job screwing over the country with your Supreme Court picks.
Oh, how I do ramble.
If you’ve already figured out, the Aussie dude’s got two pontoon boats ‘rafted up’ as we Barcroft folks call it, good on him. But did you happen to catch the full size gas grill behind him? And the full bar stoked alongside it? He’s prime and ready for any hot babes, but he might want to find a T-shirt.
Nothing says Sunday boating like booze on the lake. But nothing I’d ever do, no sir.
The lake folks now have our own speedboat with signs saying ‘Water Patrol’ on the side, so I know who’s roaring by making a wake to rock Layla the husky off the bow of our boat. They now have a diagram they post in the community newsletter showing the places where swimmers are likely to be found so we boaters know to aim for them. Of course the water patrol boat just zooms back and forth regardless. What else are you gonna do if you’re a high schooler being paid minimum wage to life guard? I mean, other than getting a fabulous summer tan, scaring the geese has to be a kick.
Speaking of kicks, I’m wondering, did the Aussie’s little wifey kick him out? What’s he gonna do come winter? Curious minds and all that.
