Writing about Pei Cobb Freed, I came on this link: A Design for the East Building. Locals call it the East Wing Art Museum.
Pei was doodling a 2:3 proportioned triangle mimicking the diagonal roads, Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenues bounding the site.
But the story of the earlier Hancock Tower’s glass failure reminded me of the graduate studio I took under Henry Cobb, the poor soul whose project it was. The lesson I took away was one of persistence in the face of calamity—that and keeping current with your insurance policies.
